Hong Kong Customs seizes about 900 grams of suspected heroin at airport (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs today (September 4) detected a suspected drug trafficking case and seized about 900 grams of suspected heroin with an estimated value of $650,000 at Hong Kong International Airport.

The suspected heroin was detected in transshipment express cargo from Malaysia to Canada via Hong Kong. The consignment was declared as "Candle Holder and Small Plate". During the course of examination, Customs officers observed suspicious X-ray images of six placemats inside the consignment. Suspected heroin was subsequently found inside the placemats.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
