Hong Kong Customs holds Regional Drug Enforcement Capacity Building Workshop (with photos)

18 Sep 2023

The Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong (C&ED) will hold the Regional Drug Enforcement Capacity Building Workshop from today (September 18) to September 22. Forty-four representatives mainly from 24 law enforcement agencies (LEAs) from the Mainland, Asia-Pacific countries and regions, overseas offices stationed in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as international organisations including the International Narcotics Control Board and the World Customs Organization, will participate in the workshop throughout the week.

The workshop is the first large-scale international anti-drug workshop to be held after the sixth Three-Country-Five-Party Talks and the Regional Customs High-level Drug Enforcement Forum that concluded in February 2023. Key topics include sharing of the latest drug trafficking trends, exchange of practical skills related to investigation and visiting Customs training facilities. Hong Kong Customs takes this opportunity to foster co-operation and share law enforcement experience with overseas and regional LEAs, as well as enhancing the understanding of frontline officers of transnational drug trafficking trends and boosting the effectiveness of suppressing transnational drug crimes.

Looking ahead, the C&ED will continue to strengthen international intelligence exchange and law enforcement collaboration with other LEAs and organisations, and fully leverage Hong Kong's unique advantages of enjoying the strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world to combat transnational drug trafficking activities.

Ends/Monday, September 18, 2023
