Hong Kong Customs officers seized 67 grams of cocaine and 94 grams of herbal cannabis on Temple Street, Jordan in an anti-drug operation last evening (January 3).

They also arrested a 21-year-old male street level drug trafficker.

About 8.20pm, officers from the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau spotted a man acting in a suspicious manner on Temple Street, Jordan. When intercepted and searched, the man was found to have 31 grams of cocaine in his underwear.

In subsequent investigations, Customs officers found another 36 grams of cocaine, 94 grams of herbal cannabis and a batch of paraphernalia on his residential premises. The seizure was worth about $60,000 in total.

The man, aged 21, will be charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs. He will face trial at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (January 5).

A spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said today (January 4), "The Department believes that the seized drugs were intended for sale at discos or other entertainment venues in the Yau Tsim Mong District. Customs investigations are continuing."

He appealed to the young people to stay away from dangerous drugs or they will face severe punishment.

The maximum penalty for the offence of "trafficking in dangerous drugs" under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
