Prohibited articles are articles the import or export of which are prohibited or controlled under the provisions of the Import and Export Ordinance (Cap. 60, Laws of Hong Kong) or any other laws of Hong Kong. The import or export of such articles must be covered by import licences, permits or certificates issued in advance by the relevant Government departments and subject to conditions imposed.

Importing and consigning of smokeless tobacco products are prohibited to protect public health.

Imports of halons, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), carbon tetrachloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane and hydrobomofluorocarbons (HBFCs) for local consumption are banned.
