Customs officers yesterday (March 26) arrested a Filipino woman suspected of trafficking in 3.14 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated local retail value of $1.75 million, at the Hong Kong International Airport.

About 11.15am, customs officers intercepted for inspection the 33-year-old Filipino woman who had arrived from Manila, the Philippines.

They uncovered from a false compartment inside her luggage case four packets of heroin weighing 3.14 kilograms in total.

The arrested woman has been charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. She will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (March 28).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
