Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected ketamine at Lo Wu Control Point (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs today (May 2) arrested a 36-year-old man at Lo Wu Control Point after finding 1 kilogramme of suspected ketamine in his possession with an estimated retail value of about $108,000.

Early this morning, Customs officers intercepted an incoming male passenger in the Customs Arrival Hall at Lo Wu Control Point. He was searched and the suspected ketamine was found packed in a tea leaf bag inside the rucksack carried by the passenger. Besides, a small amount of suspected ketamine was seized upon premises search of the defendant.

The arrested person will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Court tomorrow (May 3).

Customs has strengthened enforcement actions at all control points in support of the Government's strategy to combat drug problems. We are fully alert at all times to foil attempts by drug traffickers in taking advantage of the heavy traffic of passengers and cargoes at the control points.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
