Hong Kong Customs detects suspected smartphone smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (April 27) detected a suspected smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point and seized 150 unmanifested smartphones with a total value of about $420,000.

Customs officers intercepted an outgoing lorry at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday evening. During inspection, 150 unmanifested smartphones were found inside the cargo compartment of the lorry. The 58-year-old male driver was arrested.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to import or export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
