Customs officers this afternoon (January 21) conducted an anti-counterfeiting operation at Victoria Park and seized a large quantity of faked goods.

At 1pm today, Customs officers from the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau raided two stalls at Victoria Park. They seized about 5,500 pieces of counterfeit goods, including clothes, mats and cushions, worth a total of $275,000. The goods seized bore forged trademarks of popular cartoon characters.

"No arrests have been made and Customs investigations are continuing," a spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said.

The spokesman warned that any person who contravenes the Trade Descriptions Ordinance is liable to prosecution. The maximum penalty is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.

He urged members of the public to report suspected counterfeit activities to the Customs and Excise Department on its 24-hour hotline, 2545 6182.
