Hong Kong Customs celebrates International Customs Day

26 Jan 2004

The Customs and Excise Department today (January 26) hosted a reception to mark International Customs Day 2004.

The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Frederick Ma, attended the reception as the Principal Guest.

This is the 17th year Hong Kong Customs has celebrated International Customs Day since the department became a member of the World Customs Organisation in 1987.

International Customs Day promotes Customs co-operation in the interest of international trade and forging closer links between Customs officials of different administrations.

More than 300 guests, including Legislative Council Members, senior Government officials, Consul-Generals, local dignitaries, foreign Customs attaches, and Customs representatives from the Mainland and Macau attended the reception at the Customs and Excise Senior Officers' Mess.

During the function, a cheque presentation ceremony was held to mark a donation of $1 million to the Customs and Excise Service Children's Education Trust by six local dignitaries.
