Amended classification for import and export declarations takes effect in 2008

17 Dec 2007

The Customs and Excise Department today (December 17) reminded importers and exporters that import and export declarations of shipments on or after January 1, 2008 must be completed in accordance with the amended classification made to the Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonized System).

The amendments, published in the Gazette on December 14, will take effect on January 1, 2008.

They involve 51 commodity items, including animal products, chemical products, plastics, raw hides and skins, textiles and clothing, glassware, metal products, machinery, electrical equipment and toys.

These amendments will bring the classification list more in line with current requirements through the introduction and adoption of more appropriate sub-classification of goods.
