Hong Kong Customs seizes 2.5 kg of cocaine (with photos)

Customs officers yesterday (February 22) intercepted a foreign male passenger arriving from Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 2.5 kilogrammes of cocaine. The drugs were concealed at the bottom of five paper shopping bags inside his check in suitcase with an estimated market value of about $2.6 million.

The arrested man, aged 26-year-old, claimed to be unemployed. He was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts on February 25.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
