Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled smartphones (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (February 28) seized 750 suspected smuggled smartphones with an estimated market value of about $1.1 million at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

Customs officers intercepted an outgoing container truck at Lok Ma Chau Control Point for inspection yesterday afternoon and seized 750 suspected smuggled smartphones inside a hollow space at the rear of the trailer.

The 65-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
