Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (November 1) seized about 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine in Cheung Sha Wan with an estimated market value of about $1.14 million.

During an anti-narcotics operation conducted yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a man in Cheung Sha Wan and found the suspected cocaine in his possession. The 22-year-old man was then arrested. Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers also arrested a 29-year-old man suspected to be involved in a case in Hung Hom.

Both arrested men claimed to be unemployed. The case is still under investigation.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
