Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled electronic products (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 8) detected two suspected smuggling cases and seized a large haul of suspected smuggled electronic products with an estimated market value of about $15 million at Man Kam To Control Point.

Customs officers yesterday intercepted two outgoing lorries for inspection which declared to contain electronic goods on board. Upon examination, the cargo compartments of the two lorries were found to contain the batch of electronic products, including 861 central processing units, 481,604 integrated circuits, 3,811 computer random access memories, 152 digital cameras, 245 digital camera parts, 1,633 smartphones, and 50 hard disk. The 42-year-old and 56-year-old male drivers were arrested and were put on police bail pending further investigation.

Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
