Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled animal fur (with photo)

​​Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 29) seized about 914 kilograms of animal fur from suspected smugglers in the waters south of Lantau Island with an estimated market value of about $4.1 million.

Yesterday afternoon, Customs officers mounted an anti-smuggling operation in the waters off south Lantau Island. After a pursuit, the suspected smugglers' speedboat went aground at Lo Kei Wan, Lantau Island. Customs officers seized the animal fur from the speedboat.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
