To prevent young people from falling into traps when seeking employment during summer holidays and being abused for smuggling activities, Hong Kong Customs and Hong Kong Police Force today (July 28) started to distribute promotional leaflets at the six land boundary control points to raise the awareness of the public, especially young people.

Hong Kong Customs and Hong Kong Police Force remind members of the public that any person who carries or possesses prohibited articles from Hong Kong to the Mainland or vice versa may contravene the relevant laws of Hong Kong or the Mainland. The consequence is serious and offenders may be subject to custodial sentence. Attributed to the differences in the laws and testing standards, possession of air guns with muzzle energy not greater than two joules does not constitute an offence in Hong Kong. However, it may breach relevant regulations in the Mainland. Members of the public and young people should pay attention to this issue and avoid violation of relevant laws.

Hong Kong Customs and Hong Kong Police Force also appeal for parents and guardians in reminding their children and students to refrain from accepting any hiring or entrustment from any person to carry prohibited articles to and from Hong Kong.

During this summer holiday, Hong Kong Customs and Hong Kong Police Force will step up enforcement against such illegal activities.

Ends/Friday, July 28, 2017
