Customs seizes unmanifested computer hard disks

Customs officers today (April 19) seized 1,955 unmanifested computer hard disks while inspecting a lorry departing for Shenzhen at the Man Kam To Control Point.

Shortly after noon, Customs officers searched an outgoing lorry declared to be empty. As a result, they found 1,955 unmanifested computer hard disks inside a false compartment.

The seizure, including the computer hard disks and the lorry, was worth about $1 million.

Customs officers also arrested a 32-year-old driver.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for exporting unmanifested goods is a fine of $2 million and seven years' imprisonment.
