Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs seized about 6.7 kilograms of suspected cocaine at Hong Kong International Airport on October 21 and 23 with an estimated market value of about $5.96 million.

Customs officers inspected an air mail parcel from Peru on October 21 and found about 5.2kg of suspected cocaine mixed in with 10 candles. Customs officers yesterday (October 23) arrested an 18-year-old man suspected to be related to the case in Wong Tai Sin.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Doha, Qatar yesterday afternoon. Upon examination, Customs officers seized about 1.5kg of suspected cocaine from the metal frame and wheels of his two pieces of check-in baggage. The man was arrested.

The two cases are under investigation.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
