Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs seized about 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $0.92 million.

A 48-year-old female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Tanzania via Ethiopia in the afternoon on November 14.

Customs officers suspected the woman to have contraband articles concealed in her body cavities and escorted her to hospital.

Subsequently, the female discharged pellets of suspected cocaine weighting about 1kg.

Customs officers arrested her. Investigation is ongoing.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
