Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled gold (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 6) seized 35 pieces of suspected smuggled gold weighing about 35 kilograms in total with an estimated market value of about $11 million at Shenzhen Bay Control Point.

Customs officers yesterday intercepted an incoming private car at Shenzhen Bay Control Point for inspection and seized the batch of suspected smuggled gold inside the boot of the vehicle. The 31-year-old male driver was arrested.

Investigation is ongoing.

Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
