Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cannabis buds at Hung Hom (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 30) seized about 1.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds at Hung Hom and arrested a couple. The market value of the drug was about $270,000.

Customs officers intercepted a woman last night at Hung Hom and found the drug inside a plastic bag carried by her. The woman was arrested at the scene. Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested her husband in a flat at Hung Hom.

The 39-year-old woman and 47-year-old man, claiming to be a housewife and unemployed respectively, were arrested for suspected drug trafficking. The case will be brought up for mention at Eastern Magistrates' Courts on November 1.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million
