Hong Kong Customs and Marine Police seize suspected smuggled kirin fruits and mobile phones (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs and the Marine Police conducted a joint operation today (January 23) in the waters off Lau Fau Shan and seized about 556 kilograms of suspected smuggled kirin fruits and 430 suspected smuggled mobile phones with an estimated value of about $800,000.

Hong Kong Customs and the Marine West Division conducted an anti-smuggling operation this morning and intercepted a motorised sampan in the waters off Lau Fau Shan. The batch of suspected smuggled kirin fruits and mobile phones were found on board the sampan Two male crew members, aged 27 and 34, were then arrested. The sampan was also detained for further investigation.

Investigation is ongoing.

Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
