Customs arrests a heroin courier in Yaumatei (with photo)

Customs officers today (November 2) in Yaumatei arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of trafficking in 189 grammes of heroin, with an estimated street value of $157,000.

Customs officers in the afternoon intercepted the man on Pitt Street, Yaumatei, Kowloon and found three packets of heroin beneath his waistband, totally about 189 grammes. He was then charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (November 3).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence which is liable to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
