23 Nov 2009

The Customs and Excise Department today (November 23) reminded importers and exporters that import and export declarations for shipments on or after January 1, 2010, must be completed in accordance with an amended classification made to the current edition of the Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonised System).

The amendments, published in the Gazette on November 20, will take effect on January 1, 2010.

They involve 22 commodity items, mainly including fish, edible oils, fermented beverages, hygiene preparations, chemical preparations, plastics, textiles, clothing accessories, metal articles, machinery, electric apparatus, meters as well as X-ray apparatus. In addition, Appendix II of the Classification List is also amended.

These amendments will bring the classification more in line with current requirements through the introduction and adoption of more appropriate sub-classifications.
