Hong Kong Customs today (December 22) foiled a drug trafficking attempt at the Hong Kong International Airport and arrested a 62-year-old man with a seizure of around 2,600 grammes of methamphetamine ("ice"), worth about $1.9 million.

During an anti-narcotics operation at the airport Departure Hall this morning, officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau intercepted the man who was bound for Sydney, Australia. They found four packets of "ice", about 2,600 grammes in total, wrapped on his back and outer hips.

The man will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (December 23).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
