Customs detects suspected smuggling of central processing units at Lok Ma Chau Control Point (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs detected a suspected smuggling case with a private car at Lok Ma Chau Control Point today (April 15) and seized a batch of 4 152 central processing units worth about $5.18 million.

Customs officers intercepted an outgoing private car for inspection this morning. The officers found the batch of goods being concealed inside the false compartments under the front fenders of the private car. The 55-year-old male driver was arrested and put on bail. The private car was seized for further investigation.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
