Hong Kong Customs seizes heroin at airport (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs foiled a transnational drug trafficking attempt yesterday (February 16) afternoon, seizing about two kilogrammes of heroin with a market value of about $1.56 million at Hong Kong International Airport. A 20-year-old woman was arrested.

Customs officers searched the baggage of the woman who arrived from Johannesburg, South Africa, yesterday and found approximately two kilogrammes of heroin concealed inside a false compartment of her suitcase.

The arrestee will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (February 18).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
