Hong Kong Customs strengthened bilateral co-operation with Shenzhen Customs and jointly mounted an anti-smuggling operation codenamed "SG3" at various major passenger control points from May 15 to June 15. Through mutual exchange of intelligence, the two sides simultaneously stepped up enforcement actions against illicit parallel trading activities.

During the period, 20 joint operations were mounted with 61 cases effected. Items seized through the joint operations included mobile phones, tablets, electronic products and accessories, watches, and illicit cigarettes. Total seizures were valued at about $4.1 million.

Hong Kong Customs and Shenzhen Customs launched anti-smuggling operations codenamed "SG1" and "SG2" in stages between December 2014 and February 2015. Operation "SG3" was launched subsequent to the efforts attained in these earlier operations. Hong Kong Customs and Shenzhen Customs will continue to foster co-operation and conduct special operations as necessary at land boundary control points to combat illicit parallel trading activities.

Anyone with information about suspected smuggling activities may report it to Hong Kong Customs by calling the 24-hour hotline 2545 6182.
