Hong Kong Customs detects suspected smuggling of central processing units at Man Kam To Control Point (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 7) detected a suspected smuggling case at Man Kam To Control Point and seized a total of 2 560 central processing units (CPUs) worth about $4.3 million. This is the second suspected case of CPU smuggling detected at this control point this month.

Yesterday evening Customs officers intercepted an outgoing truck for inspection. Upon examination, the officers discovered the CPUs concealed in the rear axle of the truck. The 55-year-old male driver was arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to import or export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
