Hong Kong Customs raids largest in-town cannabis buds storage centre on record (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (July 21) seized about 159 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds with an estimated market value of about $30 million in Sheung Shui. This is the largest in-town cannabis buds storage centre raided by Customs on record.

During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Sheung Shui yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a 30-year-old man and found about 1kg of suspected cannabis buds inside a paper bag carried by him. He was therefore arrested.

Customs officers later escorted the arrested man to a residential premises nearby for a search and further seized about 158kg of suspected cannabis buds.

An investigation is ongoing.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
