Hong Kong Customs fully supports National Security Education Day (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs has been playing an important role in safeguarding national security and is giving its full support to the National Security Education Day organised by the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The department today (April 15) held the Hong Kong Customs College Open Day to promote national security education to members of the public.

The open day featured a range of activities, including an exhibition on national security education to enhance public understanding of national security and introduce Customs' work and effectiveness in safeguarding national security. In addition, game booths were set up to introduce the department's responsibility to perform its gatekeeping role interactively. Visitors also enjoyed the performance by members of the Customs and Excise Department Band, Guards of Honour, Dragon and Lion Dance Team and Detector Dog Team. Other programmes included the display of vehicle X-ray inspection system, guided tours to the Professional Development Training Block, the experience of the innovative learning tool Cave Automatic Virtual Environment System and the display of firearms and weapons.

Moreover, Guards of Honour and members of "Customs YES" participated in the flag raising ceremony held by the Security Bureau and its disciplinary forces and auxiliary services at the Hong Kong Police College today. In addition, Hong Kong Customs set up a booth to introduce the department's multi-faceted work in safeguarding national security. The booth also won the Gold Award of the Disciplined Forces National Security Education Promotion Competition. The Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Ms Louise Ho, the Deputy Commissioner (Control and Enforcement), Mr Chan Tsz-tat, and the Deputy Commissioner (Management and Strategic Development), Mr Ellis Lai attended the flag raising ceremony and visited the booths.

To advocate the mission of safeguarding national security, Customs for the first time introduced the Safeguarding National Security Cup relay race to the Athletics Meet held on March 25. Participating teams are composed of officers from different formations, their family members, and members of "Customs YES", signifying passing on the spirit of safeguarding national security to the next generations. Athletes of the winning teams attended the Safeguarding National Security Cup awards presentation ceremony of the disciplined services held at the Hong Kong Correctional Services Academy this afternoon.
