Hong Kong Customs seized a total of about 36.2 kilograms of suspected ketamine, with an estimated market value of about $18 million, at the Kwai Chung Customhouse Cargo Examination Compound on December 16 and 19, 2025. Three persons suspected to be connected with the cases were arrested.
Through intelligence analysis and risk assessment, Customs inspected two seaborne consolidated containers on the abovementioned dates. The first batch of cargo arrived in Hong Kong from the Netherlands and was declared as carrying car head restraints and baby car-safety seats. After an examination, Customs officers seized about 15.6kg of suspected ketamine from five boxes of goods in the container. The second batch of the shipment arrived in Hong Kong from Spain and was reportedly carrying baby car-safety seats, seat covers and motorcycle helmets. About 20.6kg of suspected ketamine were found concealed inside 10 boxes of goods in the container.
Upon follow-up investigations, Customs officers conducted a controlled delivery operation on January 6 and arrested a 35-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman in Tin Shui Wai. Later, Customs arrested another 42-year-old man in Sheung Shui.
The three arrested persons have been jointly charged with one count of attempting to traffic in a dangerous drug, with the 42-year-old man being further charged with one count of attempting to traffic in a dangerous drug. The cases will be brought up at the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (January 9).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
