Hong Kong Customs seizes cocaine at airport (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs arrested a woman at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (October 13) with the seizure of about 2.35 kilogrammes of cocaine with an estimated market value of about $2.4 million from her.

Customs officers intercepted the woman coming from Peru at the arrival hall of the airport for inspection. The cocaine was found in false compartments in her suitcase.

The 52-year-old woman, who claimed to be a housewife, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (October 15).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
