Hong Kong Customs seizes methamphetamine at airport (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs arrested a male in transit from Benin of West Africa to the Philippines at the Hong Kong International Airport last night (December 10) with the seizure of about 1.6 kilogrammes of methamphetamine ("Ice") at an estimated market value of about $1.2 million. The ice was found from the concealed compartment of his luggage case.

The 38-year-old man, who claimed to be a businessman, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (December 12).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
