Hong Kong Customs seizes methamphetamine at airport (with photos)

Customs officers yesterday (December 3) intercepted a male outgoing passenger departing for Auckland, New Zealand at the departure level of Hong Kong International Airport with the seizure of about two kilogrammes of methamphetamine (Ice) with an estimated market value of about $1.7 million from the false compartment of his suitcase.

The 35-year-old man, who claimed to be unemployed, will be charged for trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (December 5).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
