Hong Kong Customs seizes methamphetamine at airport (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs intercepted a woman in air transit from Benin (Africa) to Thailand in the transit lounge of Hong Kong International Airport last night (December 1), leading to the seizure of about 3.6 kilogrammes of methamphetamine ("Ice") with an estimated market value of about $2.9 million which was concealed in her luggage.

The 23-year-old woman, who claimed to be unemployed, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (December 3).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
