Customs seizes $1.34 million worth smuggled goods

Customs officers of Man Kam To Control Point yesterday (September 21) foiled a smuggling case and seized from an incoming medium goods vehicle 46,183 pirated optical discs and 124 cartons of counterfeit goods. The total seizure value was about $1.34 million.

At 0734 hours yesterday, Customs officers intercepted a medium goods vehicle arriving from Shenzhen to Hong Kong, which was declared to be carrying metal goods, artificial flowers, plastic goods, handicraft, daily necessaries, shoes, stationery and toys.

Upon cargo examination, Customs officers seized 46,183 pirated optical discs of total value of $1.12million. They were concealed in 101 carton boxes. Besides, they found 124 cartons of counterfeit goods, including shoes, garments, handbags, mobile phone cases, mobile phone hand free devices and watches worth about $220,000.

A 45-year-old male driver was arrested.

Investigation continues.
