Hong Kong Customs seizes heroin at airport (with photo)

Customs officers yesterday (December 23) intercepted a foreign female passenger arriving from New Delhi, India at the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 1.68 kilogrammes of heroin. The drugs were concealed in the embroideries of six dresses in her checked-in suitcase with an estimated market value of about $1.53 million.

The arrestee, aged 29-year-old, claimed to be a businesswoman. She will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court on December 26.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
