Customs seizes dangerous drugs

Customs Officers of Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday (December 8) cracked a case netting 1800 grams of herbal cannabis, 106 tablets of Nimetazepam (also known as Erimin 5). The seizure could fetch about $100,000 in the market.

A 26-year-old man, believed to be a dangerous drugs dealer, and a 23-year-old woman, were arrested. He will be charged with offences under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. The woman has been released on Police bail.

Hong Kong Customs believed that the seized drugs were intended for sale in discos and other entertainment venues in Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Shortly after 9.30pm yesterday, Customs officers intercepted a man at Chi Man Street in Ho Man Tin. They seized from his vehicle 1,275 grams of herbal cannabis, 106 tablets of Nimetazepam and 30 grams of cannabis buds.

Later on, Customs officers further seized from his apartment 525 grams of herbal cannabis.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
