Customs officers of Container Terminals Division of Ports and Maritime Command yesterday afternoon (April 11) seized from a container unmanifested goods, which were suspected to be counterfeit products.

The seized goods, including clothing, watches and sports wear of various brand names, were worth about $4.6 million.

When inspecting a consignment from the Mainland in the cargo examination compound in Tsing Yi Customs Station, Customs officers found the unmanifested goods concealed inside the container. The container was declared to be carrying motorcycle parts for re-export to South Africa.

Investigation is continuing. No arrest has been made so far.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.

Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, anyone convicted of importing or exporting any goods to which a false trade description or forged trademark is applied, is liable to a maximum penalty of $500,000 fine and five years' imprisonment.
