Hong Kong Customs seizes methamphetamine at airport (with photos)

Customs officers today (February 25) intercepted a female passenger in transit from Johannesburg, South Africa to Samui, Thailand at the transit area of the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 2.23 kilogrammes of methamphetamine (Ice). The drugs were concealed inside the false compartment of her suitcase and had an estimated market value of about $1.7 million.

The arrested woman, aged 39, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts next Monday (February 27).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
