Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cannabis buds (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 4) detected two suspected drug trafficking cases in Yuen Long. A total of 1.4 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds were seized and two men were arrested. The total market value of the drugs was about $180,000.

Customs officers intercepted a man at Shap Pat Heung, Yuen Long yesterday afternoon and found about 1.1 kg of suspected cannabis buds and packing paraphernalia inside his private car and in his residence. Customs officers intercepted another man in the same area yesterday afternoon and found about 300 grams of suspected cannabis buds inside his private car.

The arrested men, aged 40 and 37, were charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. They will appear at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts on March 7 for mention.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
