Hong Kong Customs seized methamphetamine at airport (with photo)

Customs officers yesterday (May 26) intercepted a male passenger departing for Sydney, Australia and seized about 1.2 kilogrammes of methamphetamine (Ice) at the Departure Level of Hong Kong International Airport. The drugs were found packing around the abdomen of his body with an estimated market value of about $1 million.

The arrestee, aged 38 years old, claimed to be a goods courier. He will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (May 28).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
