Customs seizes counterfeit medicine

Hong Kong Customs officers yesterday (December 14) raided one dispensary in Mong Kok, seizing 3,000 tablets of suspected counterfeit medicine for curing arthritis.

Following a complaint lodged by a trademark owner, Customs commenced investigation and raided the alleged location at 5.40pm. The seized medicine was worth about $4,080.

Customs officers arrested a 23-year-old man, who was bailed out pending further investigations.

Members of the public are encouraged to report to the Customs and Excise Department by calling its 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 if they come across any suspected counterfeiting activities.

Any person who contravenes the Trade Descriptions Ordinance is liable to prosecution. The maximum penalty is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
