Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected dangerous drugs (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (June 17) smashed a drug manufacturing workshop, arrested two men and seized a batch of suspected dangerous drugs with an estimated market value of about $2.71 million. The drugs seized included about 1.45 kilograms of suspected liquid cocaine, about 1.1kg of suspected cocaine and about 300 grams of suspected crack cocaine.

During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Lam Tin last evening, Customs officers intercepted a 24-year-old man and found small amount of suspected crack cocaine in his possession. The man was subsequently arrested.

Customs officers then escorted the arrested man to a residential premises nearby for a search. The premises was found to be a drug manufacturing workshop, where about 1.45kg of suspected liquid cocaine, about 1.1kg of suspected cocaine, about 300g of suspected crack cocaine and a batch of drug manufacturing and packaging paraphernalia were further seized. A 32-year-old man inside the premises was arrested.

The two arrested men have been holding charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. They will appear at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts on Monday (June 20).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
