Further steps towards Mutual Recognition of Authorized Economic Operator Programme with Belt and Road Countries

10 Dec 2019

Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) has been actively exploring opportunities with economies along the Belt and Road Region for mutual recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programme to facilitate a secure and seamless flow of AEO goods.

Following the tenth and eleventh AEO Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) respectively ratified with Israel and Canada last June, a delegation from Office of Supply Chain Security Management (OSCS) visited Jakarta, Indonesia, for the 1st Bilateral Meeting on the mutual recognition of AEO cum Joint Validation Visit in November 2019. In parallel with this, close connection with another Belt and Road economy, Bahrain, was also established, which led to another Bilateral Meeting in Muharraq, Bahrain in December 2019. Both meetings have been successful. Such progress will further extend Hong Kong’s MRA network with Belt and Road economies and bring significant economic development opportunities for Hong Kong along the region.

C&ED will continue to pay great effort in bringing a wider and broader MRA network in a bid to gain reciprocal clearance facilitation with different economies in the world.
