Be a Smart Consumer in Festive Season Read Terms & Conditions in Catering with Caution

D13-.jpg Dining with friends and relatives in restaurants is a great way to celebrate the festive season. To attract customers, restaurants often offer a wide variety of discount and promotion; nevertheless, some unscrupulous traders might set up traps for unwary consumers. Customs remind public to stay vigilant and know your consumer rights.

Tips from Ninja-Zero-Tolerance:

  1. Pay attention to the terms and conditions when considering the promotion and discount offered by catering establishments, e.g. check if the discount can be used in conjunction with other promotions and whether there are any surcharge for festive days or corkage fees.
  2. Before the transaction, catering establishments should inform the customers about the price and charges. They also have to inform the customers on the availability of food items promptly.
  3. If in doubt, ask the staff to clarify before ordering.
  4. If you suspect that the traders have violated the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, retain the transaction receipts or ordering records for follow-up action.
