Mainland students join Hong Kong Customs

Hong Kong Customs has always been actively recruiting talents. As more Hong Kong students have chosen to further study in the Mainland universities, Customs has sent officers to the Mainland university campuses to hold recruitment seminars and share the latest application information with Hong Kong students. Inspector, Mr Eric Chung, and Customs officer, Ms Sun Oi-chi, who studied in the Mainland, both believe that their experience give them an advantage when applying for Customs positions.

Eric, Influenced by the motto of his alma mater, Jinan University, values loyalty, sincerity, integrity and respect. He appreciates the cultural differences he encountered while interacting with students from different provinces. This understanding helps him acknowledge diverse viewpoints during recruitment interviews.

Oi-chi's time at Huaqiao University developed her independent character and adaptability. Her fluency in Mandarin enables smoother communication with Mainland tourists during customs clearance. She once encountered a tourist with a Sichuan accent whose son was caught carrying an excessive amount of cigarettes. Understanding that Sichuanese tend to speak loudly without harmful intent, she explained the duty-free limit and resolved the issue amicably by having the tourist pay a fine.
