The year 2026 is the "China Year" of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation（APEC）, with China serving as the host of the meetings. The Assistant Commissioner（Excise and Strategic Support）, Mr Ng Chun-wah, led a delegation to attend the 2026 APEC First Meeting of the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures in Guangzhou on 4 February.
Speaking at a panel discussion during the meeting, Mr Ng expressed that Hong Kong Customs is now progressing towards "Smart Customs" by leveraging big data and artificial intelligence to enhance customs clearance efficiency and strengthen law enforcement capabilities.
The delegation also presented a "Best Practices on the Implementation of Single Window in APEC Region" initiative proposed by Hong Kong Customs, which aims to consolidate the implementation status of "Single Window" systems among member economies, share best practices to enhance the operation of these systems and strengthen their interconnectivity.
