Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cannabis buds and ecstasy (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs seized about 10 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds and about 5 000 tablets of suspected ecstasy with an estimated market value of about $2.4 million at Hong Kong International Airport on September 14 and 16 respectively.

Customs officers inspected an air mail parcel from Canada on September 14 and seized about 10 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds with an estimated market value of about $2 million inside a metal filter. Customs officers today (September 19) arrested two men, aged 37 and 41, suspected related to the case in Yau Ma Tei.

In addition, Customs officers inspected an express parcel from Thailand on September 16 and seized about 5 000 tablets of suspected ecstasy with an estimated market value of about $400,000 from nine plastic bottles. Customs officers yesterday (September 18) arrested a 38-year-old woman suspected related to the case in Tai Kok Tsui.

Investigation of the above two cases is ongoing.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
